Down a degree is a nation-wide energy saving campaign. It started on 10.10.2022 and encourages all Finns to save energy during the winter season. Campaign has short-term and long-term goals. Short-term goal is to encourage over 95% of Finnish households to save energy and cut down their consumption by 5% during energy peak hours. Long term goal is to permanently lower energy consumption and reduce electricity consumption peaks. Website offers practical tips to save energy in different areas of life.
A two-year energy project was launched in 2017 at all schools in the city of Pyhäjärvi, in Finland, in which the Euronet 50/50 method was applied. This method aims to save energy and financial costs in a building. It involves building users to act in a way that saves energy and promotes environmentally friendly behaviour at the same time. 50/50 – methodology consists of 9 clear steps on how to achieve this aim. School students and staff are invited to think together about ways to reduce the consumption of electricity, heat and water. Energy consumption is measured monthly, and the results are compared with the consumption of the previous three years. The municipality returned half of the money savings achieved in energy and water consumption to the schools, where the students can decide for themselves how to use it. Over two years, an amount of about 10,000 euros, was returned to the schools.
The City of Wrocław has introduced smart metering in their city. The technology used, AMIplus, is a smart metering system that allows automatic processing, transmission and management of measurement data. It facilitates two-way communication between the electricity meters and the distributor, while giving consumers/customers access to current information on electricity consumption.
There are multiple benefits, but the main ones can be summarised as follows:
- 1. Faster problem resolution for consumers, for example, in the event of a power outage the system sends information directly to the electricity provider. As a result, the provider can troubleshoot and resolve issues faster;
- 2. Allows remote meter reading, offering better security and protection against fraud
- 3. The smart meter display allows the user to separately analyse the amount of electricity consumed. Providing detailed information about the consumption of electricity with an accuracy of 15 minutes to one hour and, consequently, promoting behaviour change.
