Other simple ways to cut down on energy consumption
Smart plugs
With a smart plug, you can connect your device to the socket. You connect the plug of the device to the smart plug and then plug the smart plug into the socket. You can then see the consumption of the device on your smartphone via Bluetooth. You can immediately see how many kWh a device consumes, but you can also switch the device on and off via your smartphone. Smart plugs can be bought at most hardware stores!
Led lights
By replacing your halogen lamps with LED lamps, you save about 10 euros per lamp per year! So that adds up quickly. LED bulbs also last longer than regular bulbs. This way you save double! Do not forget to replace the lamps with more special lighting, such as under kitchen cabinets and spotlights. You can find led bulbs at your local hardware store.
Energy-efficient hardware
A lot of old fridges and other hardware in your house might not be very energy efficient. Of course it will take a little bit of an investment to replace your fridge, but you can make your money back rather quickly. So when buying a new appliance look for the most energy efficient one (label A or better) and buy the right size. A bigger fridge or washing machine than you need will also use more energy!
Set your fridge and freezer to the right temperature and use eco programs when washing
Sometimes people set their fridge and freezer to a too cold temperature. In those cases, you use more energy than is needed. Check at what temperature your fridge and freezers are set. The fridge should be set at 4C and the freezer at u201318C. Washing should be done at 30C using the eco mode!
