Why is Sustainable Living at Home important?
Humans are using natural resources at an unsustainable rate: 1.8 times faster than the planet’s capacity can regenerate. This means that we are using resources as if we have 1.8 Earths! One way to reverse this is to have greener behaviours in our homes. If we consume responsibly (e.g., buy locally, avoid plastics and don’t waste food), if we recycle, reduce and reuse, if we use less or no energy from fossil fuels, this leads to:
- Decreasing the need to extract natural resources
- Reducing the environmental footprint
- Minimizing energy and greenhouse gas emissions
