Take a stand, make a difference!
How can you actively promote sustainable mobility choices? Explore the following actions you can take individually or with your community to foster a healthier environment, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and improve overall well-being.
What can I do?
Quick & Go activities
- Walk or cycle short distances more often, and avoid unnecessary journeys by car. This is not only good for the environment, but also for your health!
- Walk around your city — this way you will get to know the routes on foot and get a better feeling for the length of the routes and the time you need for each trip.
Deep but swift activities
- Consider to travel by train on your next holiday. Europe is well connected via an extensive rail network. Because you have to plan a lot of time before and after your flight, traveling by train can also be worthwhile in terms of time.
- Find out if there are offers for certain groups of people such as seniors or the discounted prices if you buy a monthly or annual ticket instead of individual tickets.
- In some cases you can get money from your employer for transportation in your journey to work (e.g., the purchase of a bicycle; partial or full payment of public transportation tickets). You can find more information about this here.
The hardest, the best activities
- Sell your car and use car-sharing offers, where you share the car with others. You will save money.
- Switch to e-mobility. There are various government subsidies for the purchase of an e-car or e-bike. Check the actual conditions.
What can I do with my community?
Quick & Go activities
- Do you have a colleague who lives nearby and goes to work by car as well? Offer him or her a regular lift and share the travel costs.
- Support initiatives for car-free city centres.
Deep but swift activities
- Buy compensation for your CO2 footprint resulting from using an airplane at an association that uses your fee to support climate protection projects that save CO2 through renewable energies.
- Establish a group that regularly does bike rides. The experience may contribute to more regular use of a bicycle in everyday life.
The hardest, the best activities
- Practice carsharing. If you do not want to join a company, initiate a neighbourhood initiative to pool the available cars. For networking within the neighbourhood, no matter for what purpose, there are various apps and platforms. Here you can find information.
- Together with your municipality, association, or enterprise, showcase environmentally friendly ways of mobility by taking part in the European Mobility Week.
