The GreenerAge multiplier event organised by ISIS (ISIS Institut für Soziale Infrastruktur gemeinnützige GmbH ) took place in Maintal, Germany. It took place during a book exhibition organised by the NGO “Persönlichkeit mit Perspektiven [https://www.pmpev.de/]” with books for adults and children on environmental and climate change. The exhibition was also an opportunity for the Municipality to present the new cargo bikes. GreenerAge information material was distributed among the participants, with printed compendium and flyers made of a special paper containing seeds for caterpillar-friendly flowers. Interested visitors could get acquainted with the GreenerAge learning platform thanks to the laptops provided during the exhibition. Those who answered the GreenerAge quizzes correctly qualified for a wheel of fortune with eco-friendly prizes. Visitors to the exhibition were also invited to attend a meeting where the GreenerAge project objectives and results were presented and discussed, highlighting their potential impact on the community of Maintal. Approximately 100 citizens visited the multiplier event of which 53 confirmed their attendance in writing.

At the beginning of December, the Fundacja Laboratorium Architektury 60+ (LAB 60+) organised a multiplier event. The meeting took place in Tychy, Poland. The event was attended by about 40 people, including members of the Tychy Council of Seniors (an associate partner of LAB 60+), representatives of the Tychy University of the Third Age, the Maluch126p Association, the Tychy Branch of the Polish Ecological Society and the Platinum Seniors Club. During the meeting, the project and its results were presented to the participants, who could also get acquainted with the learning platform. All participants were involved in lively discussions, especially about the adoption of the GreenerAge solution by local communities.

The GreenerAge project partners from Finland, Portugal, Poland, the Netherlands, and Germany posed the following question to citizens: “What kind of good environmental measures are being taken national and/or local wide?” The responses received were very positive, underscoring the widespread concern for environmental matters in these diverse countries.In the GreenerAge – Climate Change and Environmental Literacy for Urban Citizens 55+ project, we remain steadfast in our commitment to enhancing the environmental knowledge of individuals aged 55 and above. Our goal is to expand access to information and user-friendly digital tools while empowering adult educators to provide accessible and highly adaptable training on sustainable practices.

We are delighted to announce the release of national reports from Finland, Portugal, Germany, Netherlands, and Poland! These reports provide valuable insights into the environmental literacy knowledge, habits, and behaviors that require sustainable change within the 55+ target group in each respective country. In addition, they highlight existing commendable environmental practices from these regions.  The national reports also encompass the outcomes of workshops and narrative interviews conducted at the beginning of the project. These activities were designed to gather inputs not only for the development of the compendium but also for the learning platform. By incorporating these inputs, we aim to create a comprehensive and impactful resource for fostering environmental awareness and engagement within the 55+ demographic. On the 16th November 2022, Raúl Castaño-Rosa of Tampere University, the coordinator of the GreenerAge project, participated in the Forum for Liberal Adult Education, in Finland.  In a discussion with around 70 participants, including representatives from the Ministry, about the new roadmap for liberal adult education around 2030, the GreenerAge project – Climate Change and Environmental Literacy for Urban Citizens 55+, was presented, including the ways in which it can contribute to the roadmap development.  It was another relevant forum for the dissemination of the project, a fundamental premise for its success and future broad implementation!  

The Erasmus+ project GreenerAge | Climate Change and Environmental Literacy for Urban Citizens 55+ was presented on February 8th in Coimbra, at the International Conference Learning and Implementing Social Innovation – talking about Smart Healthy Age-Friendly Environments. This Conference was co-organised by SHINE 2Europe, AFEdemy, NET4Age-Friendly and Coimbra’s Nursing School and had the privilege to count with the participation of the project Coordinator, Tampere University (Finland) in one of the sessions. At the plenary session about “People at the centre of the interventions”, Raúl Castaño-Rosa presented the project, including the tools to be developed – the environment and climate literacy compendium, the digital learning platform, the toolkit for trainers and a set of recommendations for policy makers – that will allow to positively inform, engage and empower adults 55+ to take action on climate change and reduce environmental impact in their daily lives as part of the green transition. GreenerAge is a project involving five organisations from 5 European countries: Portugal, Finland, The Netherlands, Germany and Poland, committed to the goal to contribute to the transition to a greener world. Each partner is currently preparing a national report to understand the state of environmental literacy in their country, the environmental education and the behaviours needed to minimise harm to the environment as much as possible, or even more, that may benefit it. As a result, the main gaps and changes to be adopted in the behaviours of adults 55+ will be identified and further addressed by the project tools. We are all responsible for our planet and people over 55+ can make a strong contribution to the transition to a greener world: they often have time, maturity, life experience and expert knowledge, conditions that will enable them to substantially contribute to a greener future, either individually or as volunteers!
